My 6 Step Routine for Skin Care for Acne
These homemade skin care treatments and acne remedies are time tested solutions that have been passed through generations of ladies in my family. I have recently taken the time out to invest myself in these treatments and have first- hand experience of what works and what does not. In order to get them assembled into a routine and sequence wise process, I have dived into a journey in understanding how they work. The below skincare regimen is a reflection of the time spent personally in assorting these homemade remedies into a guaranteed solution for different skin disorders.
My skin type is oily and hence these treatments are better suited for skin types that have a tendency to become oily. However you may try them on any skin type and be amazed at the results.
However one must remember the fact that no remedy is a push button solution but rather a journey in the right direction. For the remedy to be effective, one has to combine a clean-up of a number of things such as their lifestyle, eating habits and finally skin care regimen. Acne free clear skin is a process and not a push button solution, so enjoy the journey to rejuvenate your skin in the natural way and reap rich benefits from the same overall.
- Honey Cleansing in the Morning
Early in the morning, as soon as I wake up, I wash my face with Manuka honey. The rinsing solution consists of ingredients including primarily honey, warm water and lime juice. One can simply rinse and wash their face with this combination or let it sit on their face like a mask till you feel comfortable to take it off. I have personally spent an hour at times to let the paste of the above combination dampen on my face till it loses moisture and dries off.
Manuka Honey is not just revered for its medicinal properties but also for its healing abilities as it has the anti-bacterial properties to destroy the bacteria causing acne. Moreover it replenishes the skin with much needed nutrients and hydrates it with moisture to give it a long lasting glow. It removes any excess oil and maintains the Ph. value of the skin keeping it balanced without the use of any chemicals.
- Rose Water Toner
After my early morning face wash regime, I use liberal amounts of rose water to spray on my skin as a skin toner. Pure rose water contains Ph balancing properties which nullify excess build-up of oil secreting elements on the skin which eventually erupt in acne. Acne-causing bacteria thrive on acidic, low-oxygen environments to breed and spread. Pure rose water has an inherent constitution of anti-oxidants that help check the rise of acidic skin condition and remove acne causing bacteria on application. It is the ideal natural skin toner that one can also use to remove make up and foundation after their day is over. That apart Rosewater has anti-inflammatory properties, is antibacterial and smells fantastic.
- Jojoba Oil Moisturizer
Recommending the application and use of more oil to balance out oily skin might sound defying logic and contradicting purpose. However the sound cooling effects of jojoba essential oil cannot be excluded from a fruitful skincare routine. Jojoba oil has won special status as a specialised acne exterminator and it is because of its unique chemical structure that has won it this stature as the perfect cure for treating acne naturally.
As it is the case with applying any new substance, the skin takes a little time to adjust and include it in its natural course of life. Initially it might react and cause eruptions to break out as well. But do not get worried as it is the natural process of getting the oil accustomed in one’s skincare routine. One can also try adding some essential oils to jojoba oil before applying to their skin. Essential oils are soothing and contain unadulterated essential elements and nutrients that add to the healing effect of the oil care routine.
Adding essential oils to your facial oil will enhance its more antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties as well depending on the type of essential oils used.
- Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Manuka Honey Spot Treatment/Scrub
This home-made natural remedy or paste or beauty scrub is one of the best skin care routines for acne that are effective almost with immediate effect.
Take equal parts Manuka Honey, a tiny pinch of ground cinnamon, freshly grated nutmeg and mix it into a fine paste that is neither too diluted nor too dry. It should be just fluid and fluent so that it can stay on a surface on application.
Dab a little bit of the paste and apply in small amounts to blemishes or the acne affected area on the skin and rub in circular motion to allow it to soak in deep into the skin. Let the scrub stay for as long as you like till it has worn off or been completely absorbed into skin after which you can wash it off.
You can create sufficient amount of this paste and store it for handy and ready use as and when required. Keep it in a small jar and store it in a dark or cool place or even inside the refrigerator. Use this as a beauty scrub to remove stubborn blackhead or as a face mask to replenish skin with essential nutrients.
- Clay Mask
Start a ritual practice of using a clay mask on your face for an hour or more at least once a week. You can prepare your own clay mask with some rhassoul clay like I do for myself while in the bath. The clay face mask is then allowed to stay for a while till it dries off and I exfoliate with it before rinsing it off.
Later, dry off the surface of your face with a wet steam cloth and gently wipe any remnants of the clay mask off the face leaving behind a clean, flawless and dazzling skin.
Depending on the skin type, it is advisable to use a clay mask 2-3 times a week on the face to completely wipe out and eliminate any and all oil secreting molecules from the skin.
If your skin type is oily, by applying the mask to the affected areas after a shower, the sweat pores on the skin stay clearer longer.
For a luxurious spa-like experience, it is advisable to infuse the clay with bath water itself to create a warm soothing effect overall.
- Oil Cleansing in the Evening
After a hard day’s work, it is important for the skin to breathe freely and hence it is advisable to remove any trace of make up or skin foundation remaining on the face before one can retire for the night. There is no better substitute to clean the face and clear it of any artificial presence than oil as a natural cleanser. Nothing works better than oil as a natural cleanser and one can resort to using jojoba oil itself too for this purpose. For sensitive skin you can mix jojoba oil or even hemp seed oil with essential oils for a refreshing and relaxing experience.
The use of oil removes all traces of makeup, even the toughest mascara, dirt sediments, and cleanses the skin pores and tissues deep and clean. Just applying 1/2 tsp of oil to dry skin and gently massaging it around your face will leave your skin flawless and glowing while giving you a soothing and relaxing experience.
